Pope John Paul II is very sick after contracting an infection of the urinary tract. He has been suffering a high fever and was to ill to be moved to the hospital.
Although the 84 year old Pope was given his last rites according to Italian television stations, there is no confirmation of this. His condition has stabilised according to Vatican and Italian news reports.
