Wal-Mart has agreed to pay USD 11 million to settle accusations that it had hired hundreds of illegal immigrants to work in their showrooms.
Even though Wal-Mart argued that it hadn't employed any illegal immigrants, their contractors still may have done so. This amount of money, $11 millions is so far the biggest single payment that any firm has made to the government for employing illegal immigrants. Compared to Wal-Mart's sales last year, it's just coins, of course. Last year Wal-Mart sold goods for over USD 250 billion dollars.
Wal-Mart claimed that they knew nothing about the employment of illegal immigrants before the actual raids.
