CNN reports that the Blue Mountain School District in Schuylkill County has placed buckets of river stones in all class rooms to help students protect themselves against school shooters.
"Protocol has been that students lie down, under desks and basically become passive targets on our classrooms. We decided to empower our students with tools of self-defense if needed," Superintendent David Helsel said.
And the students have been trained on how to barricade doors and run. The students are also encouraged to throw everything available at potential shooters, including pencils.
The Superintendent said that evacuating makes students the safest, but if that's not an option, at least they will have stones to protect themselves with.
