While the issue of abortion still seems to be sort of taboo in the United States of 45, according to Pew Research Center 57% of Americans are supportive of legal abortion. The number varies depending on which religious group was asked. Among atheists, which could be called sort of a religion as well, the support is 87% while among Jehovah's Witnesses there's only 18% support.
According to the survey, 82% of Buddhists are in favor of it, 90% of Unitarian Universalists (whatever that is), 68% of Hindus, 55% of Muslims, 48% of Catholics, 27% of Mormons. You can see the numbers for all religions here.
The truth, however, is, that laws relating to abortion shouldn't have anything to do with religion. However, in the United States the religions, especially certain religious groups, seem to have a strong say on the issue. And that shouldn't be the case. Laws should have NOTHING to do with religion. Laws relating to abortion should be about access to safe abortion not whether you re allowed to do it.
