Dick Cheney, U.S. Vice-President said that Hamas is trying to torpedo the peace process by doing anything they can to achieve that. The statement was made as he was ending his Middle-East tour.

After the breakfast with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert he also said that “There is evidence that Hamas is supported by Iran and Syria.”

Cheney visited the Palestinian PM on Sunday and mentioned that Palestinian state was long overdue and that both sides needed to make painful confessions in order to achieve peace.

Cheney’s Middle-East tour will end with a visit to Turkey where he is now. During his tour he also visited Afghanistan, Iraq and Saudi Arabia.

Hamas in its current state is considered to be a terrorist organization by both the United States and the European Union. And Cheney has said that the US could not support working with Hamas unless it changed its role fundamentally.
